Their first flagship mirrorless camera, the Z9, stands out as a camera that appeals to photographers and filmmakers working in a variety of fields.

45.7MP stacked BSI CMOS sensor

At the heart of the Z9 is a newly developed FX-format 45.7 MP BSI composite CMOS sensor. Its composite design ensures fast scan speeds and helps reduce shutter wobble, while its BSI design delivers impressive clarity and minimal noise at higher sensitivities. At 45.7MP, it's also a high-resolution chip that's useful for landscapes, portraits, and other detail-oriented genres, and it also lets you record video at up to 8K resolution. The full-frame BSI design is also known for its exceptional color and detail reproduction, and this sensor offers a native range of ISO 64-25600, expandable to ISO 32-102400.

EXPEED 7 video processor
The sensor is complemented by the advanced processing engine EXPEED 7, which offers approximately 10 times the speed of the Z 7II. This engine works together with a composite sensor design to achieve impressively fast AF speed, burst rate, large buffer capacity, smooth video performance and fast all-round control.

The maximum continuous shooting speed is 20 fps when shooting in raw mode, 30 fps when shooting in JPEG format and an impressive 120 fps when recording 11 megapixel photos, all rates support full AF/AE. The ability to store over 1,000 raw images per burst means sequences of raw images can be recorded continuously for approximately 50 seconds.

The electronic shutter provides a maximum shutter speed of 1/32,000s, so you can work in the brightest conditions with wider apertures. The sensor's composite design minimizes rolling shutter distortion, so fast-moving subjects like a golf club, tennis racket or baseball bat don't appear distorted at shutter speeds up to 1/32,000 sec.
AF calculations are performed at 120 frames per second to keep up with the high speed of continuous shooting.
The new high-performance RAW file format maintains image quality similar to uncompressed raw files, but the file sizes are approximately 30% smaller for faster reading/writing to the memory card.

Electronic lock design only
Relying on the sensor's speed and sophisticated design, the Z9 completely forgoes the mechanical shutter and uses only the electronic shutter for all shooting modes. The sensor speeds up to 1/32,000 sec, and the stacked structure minimizes motion distortion to accurately capture fast-moving subjects like golf clubs, baseball bats, and cars. Also, despite the lack of a mechanical shutter, flash sync up to 1/200 sec. still supported, as well as high-speed sync features.

With the mechanical shutter removed, the Z9 can also operate completely silently without the worry of mechanical shutter wear or failure. A shutter release sound can be added to let you know when a photo is taken, and the volume can be adjusted for different work scenarios.

Fast and smart AF
493 point phase detection imo AF
Covering the entire sensor area, the Z9 uses a 493-point phase detection AF system for fast and accurate focusing. This system benefits from a high-speed Z-interface connection and sensor speed that allows AF readings at up to 120 frames per second. This focus system also supports low-light operation with Starlight mode, which allows you to focus down to -8.5EV, which is very useful for astrophotography, concerts and other night photography applications.

Subject detection using deep learning technology
Using a new algorithm and deep learning technology, automatic subject detection can now recognize nine different types of subjects, from people to animals to airplanes and bicycles. With Auto-A rea AF, these subjects will be automatically detected, focused and tracked to ensure sharp focus as the subject moves through the frame. In particular, Eye Detection AF has been fine-tuned for better accuracy and improved recognition of eyes in the scene, no matter how small or large they are in the frame.
The Z9 also debuted a 3D tracking mode on a Nikon mirrorless camera. This popular Nikon DSLR focus mode is paired with subject detection capabilities to capture fast and erratic subjects that move parallel and perpendicular to the camera's axis. In addition, there are three Dynamic Area AF modes with different focus area sizes to capture a wider variety of moving subjects.

8K and 4K video recording. Up to 8K recording is supported
Matching its premium photo attributes, the Z9 is also Nikon's most powerful camcorder with a range of resolutions and frame rates up to 8K. With full pixel scanning, UHD 8K 30p video can be recorded with continuous shooting for approximately 2 hours 5 minutes.
Full-frame 4K recording at up to 120p is also available for slow-motion playback. With 8K Zone, it is possible to record UHD 4K at up to 30p for increased sharpness and detail. In addition, high-definition frame grabbers can record from 8K and 4K videos to create 33MP or 11MP stills, respectively.

ProRes and H.265 10-bit internal recording
ProRes 422 HQ and H.265 codecs support internal recording with 10-bit color and 4:2:2 sampling, while H.264 and 4:2:0 color can be used depending on workflow needs. For more loose color grading in post, there's also a 10-bit N-Log setting and a flat color profile. Additionally, HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) can be used to create HDR-ready content straight from the camera.

Professional body design. Real-time viewfinder
The Real-Live viewfinder is an advanced EVF that uses a 3.69m-dot OLED panel with adjustable brightness up to 3000 cd/m2 for clear visibility in bright conditions. This EVF also works in conjunction with dual-stream technology for blur-free viewing during continuous shooting.

Four-axis tilting LCD
For the first time, the Nikon Z9 features a 3.2-inch 2.1m dot four-axis tilting touchscreen that better supports high- and low-angle work, whether shooting horizontally or vertically. The four-way tilt design of this screen makes it easier to view from different positions, and the user interface orientation will also change depending on how the camera is held.

Strong, durable construction
Dual CFexpress Type B memory card slots allow flexible file storage and promote fast read and write speeds to keep up with fast continuous shooting and high-definition 8K video recording. Both slots are also compatible with XQD memory cards.
Optimized for professional work, the Z9 features an ergonomic shape and a vertical grip that allows you to easily switch between landscape and portrait shooting orientations.

• Built to the same dust and moisture resistance standards as the D6, the Z9 features a highly durable and rigid magnesium alloy chassis that can be 20% smaller than the previous flagship DSLR body.
• The included EN-EL18d battery provides approximately 700 shots per charge. The Z9 is also compatible with other EN-Es L18 series batteries.
• Body Shake Reduction now supports Sync VR to compensate for up to 6 stops of camera shake when used with select Z lenses.
• The VR Safety Lock protects the sensor and VR mechanism to prevent damage caused by movement while traveling.
• To help reduce the amount of dust entering the sensor, the Z9 has a sensor shield that protects the sensor surface when changing lenses. For additional dust protection, the optical filter covering the sensor is double electrically conductive and fluorine coated.
• Illuminated buttons make it easier to navigate and recognize buttons in low-light conditions.
• Voice memo function for recording short verbal notes while taking pictures.
